Yesterday we arrived at the cottages located near a small, but lovely village inside of the Chitwan national park here in Nepal, and all though the colourful and charming India was an amazing experience, it feels good to be in the fairly more relaxing environments of Nepal. The day before yesterday we also made a visit to Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, as well as some breathtaking temples located in the same area. In difference from India however, the south part Nepal has a more tropical and varying nature, with no more than a five hour drive from the deep jungle of Chitwan to the breathtaking mountain view of Pokhara, which is our next destination. In Lumbini we also got to take a part of the Holi festival, an annual festival celebrated in India, Nepal and many other countries around, where the locals, well, basically drink and throw colourful powder at one another for two whole days. After only five minutes spent outside in the street by our hotel, me and the girls were all covered in colours from top to toe, and some of the locals were quite aggressive among all the fun, but were soon hushed away by some policemen whom (thank god) noticed their behavior before we were all choking in red and purple powder.
Today we went on an early morning safari in the forest, followed up by elephant washing in the river afterwards, while me and Ida stayed for an additional 30 minutes, swimming and playing with the local kids in the nearby river.
Together with some of our fellow travelers (from Germany, Canada, UK and Denmark) we went to visit a tiny village later in the afternoon, where we stayed for a little over an hour talking to the farmers and playing with the kids, and brought them some bags of rice and two goats as a present before we left back to the cottages.
In a few days we’ll be heading to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, where I and Ida will stay at a local girl’s house, before heading up in the mountains for a week-long trekking with the two other Norwegian girls we’ve met on the tour. Stay tuned for some pictures (can’t promise anything though, but I’ll try, at least).
namaste, etc
I’ll be back next Wednesday. Until then I’ll be vintage shopping and drinking till my brain falls out, so see ya later!
Me and a friend just bought flight tickets to Barcelona from May 28th to May 30th so that we can go to the Primavera Sound festival! It was totally spontaneous, and I don’t really have the money to buy the festival ticket at all.. but oh well. Anyway, we were supposed to stay the whole festival, but then I found out I (might) be having my exam one of those days. Sucks. I miss all the best bands, too, but at least I get to see a few good ones. This is the line-up for Saturday:
»Atlas Sound »Ben Frost »Bigott »Boy 8-Bit »Built To Spill »Camaron, La Leyenda Del Tiempo »Clare And The Reasons »Dr. Dog »Dum Dum Girls »Endless Boogie »Fake Blood »Florence + The Machine »Gary Numan »Grizzly Bear »HEALTH »Lee “Scratch” Perry »Lidia Damunt »Liquid Liquid »Matt & Kim »Nana Grizol »No Age »ODDSAC »Orbital »Pet Shop Boys »Polvo »Real Estate »Roddy Frame »Rother/Shelley/Mullan »Sian Alice Group »Sunny Day Real Estate »The Almighty Defenders »The Antlers »The Bundles »The Charlatans performing “Some Friendly” »The Clean »The Drums »The Field »The Psychic Paramount »The Smith Westerns »Van Dyke Parks
